Phyllis Schwartz

Lumeongram Investigations (2010).

Lumen Prints are photogenic drawings made without a camera or darkroom enlarger. These unique photograms record the trace marks of materials placed on photosensistive paper. With fresh produce and natural items bought and found, Schwartz meanders between market, beach and kitchen observing the traces made by seaweed, fish, vegetables and fruit. This work is about the direct transmission of data from the subject to the sensitive paper. It is about the intensity of the marks made on paper and the unexpected results caused by atmospheric conditions.
