Photographs 2008 South Africa

These images are from the series of xenophobic attacks that happened throughout the Informal Settlements of South Africa. Immigrants were forced to flee their homes and live in temporary shelters for months on end untill recently when some of the immigrants have been reintergrated into their communities. As a non South African Photographer I always wondered if my life were more at risk as a photographer going to cover the events or simply because I am from a different country.

The images you see also show the challenges I had in going to these areas; there was never enough time and I could never be where I wanted to be, simply because I had to be escorted to the camps and Informal Settlements where all this was happening. Nevertheless, I have managed to come up with what I would like to believe is a full story of what happened.
